2010 is proving to be another enthusiastic year here at Pawsitive Perspectives Assistance Dogs!

As we all plod our way through winter, "weather" you're a PawPADs fan here in Minnesota or one of our followers in another part of the country, we all understand that spring is really just around the corner. After all, since December 21st, each day is a few minutes longer! Here at the PawPADs Campus, in Savage, Minnesota, we all have been getting a little "cabin fever" at times, and the dogs all love it when they can get away from class and get out and chase around in the snow that has continues to pile up in the yard. The apple tree on campus here is a simple reminder of the season changes that affect us all and that even on a dark, cold winters day, there is hope in change!

VOLUNTEERING: If your 2010 New Year's resolution includes more volunteer service, how can you go wrong achieving that by playing, feeding, caring, and teaching puppies? Several short-term openings exist on each of the puppy care teams: morning, day, and evening.

Believing in the healing power of interacting with dogs, Pawsitive Perspectives developed Paw Corps: an innovative program designed to assist veterans who are experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) reconnect with their civilian lives, their families and society in general.

These veterans will have the opportunity to focus on positive interactions, controlling frustrations, re-learning patience, emotional regulation and joy as they train service dogs for their fellow veterans who are now facing life with the challenges of new physical disabilities.

While family and friends may not want to hear of their war experiences or their challenges of facing the minutiae of everyday life in the United States' after such intense experiences, the dogs offer unconditional understanding as well as the ability to "sit" and listen when necessary.
